Few of us live in the perfect climate so adding a greenhouse to your garden is the perfect gardening facility for anyone who loves gardening. Using a greenhouse enables you to create the perfect micro climate to suit the plants you want to grow.
Many flowers and vegetables will not be able to grow in the outdoors when the weather is too cold or wet. The plants you grow in your greenhouse are completely under your control so if you neglect to water them they will die.
The benefits of a greenhouse is you are in control of the growing conditions and the plants live or die by your decisions. One of the rewarding features of greenhouse gardening comes from the responsibility that the plants are dependent on you and if things go well or go badly you must accept the praise or the blame.
When you own a greenhouse there are many flowers and vegetables you can grow and you can started them from seeds and grow them to maturity and the feelings of satisfaction can be immense. We think of greenhouses as being one shape but there are several types and choosing can be confusing but any type of greenhouse will be helpful if you have plans to grow plants out of season.
A quality greenhouse will last for many years and give you great value for your investment though there are cheaper alternatives which may not last so long. My favorite style of greenhouse is the geodesic style and I would love to build dome greenhouse partly because they look so stylish but also because they allow a lot of light into the greenhouse while giving you more groundspace to grow plants.
The type of greenhouse we are most familiar with is the rectangular shape and these may be glass down to the ground or have a small wall at the base. Rectangular greenhouses are usually aligned according to the direction where the sun rises but this may not be the case depending on your local weather conditions.
Most plants want to get the most light they can but plants can be damaged by too much strong sunshine and therefore local knowledge is needed from someone who knows your area. Glass is not always used for greenhouses and there are some very effective alternatives that may not be subject to breakage and wind damage.
The old style glass greenhouse systems have been around for generations while plastic greenhouses may only last a few years but they are a great alternative to get started with greenhouse gardening.
