New Product Allows You To Tile A Deck!

It’s always great to find new and innovative products that really work. When it comes to deck construction, it seems there are rarely problems with the framing of the deck, but the deck surface has always been a concern, especially when it comes to cold, snowy winters.

Using treated lumber for the flooring looks great at first, but even though it is much less apt to have rotting problems, the floor boards will twist, crack and split over time. Plus you have to seal the wood every year to keep it looking good.

Other types of materials like the composite decks do hold up better then the wood, but they tend to be much more expensive to build and so a lot of people shy away from them. This also applies to vinyl decking as well. Plus many people just don’t like the idea of using composite or vinyl materials.

Until recently, there were no other options. However, now there is another option that allows you to actually have a deck with a tile floor. This may sound impossible, but it’s true! This great new product that I am talking about will revolutionize the decking industry. It gives you the ability to install tile on the floor of your existing or new deck in place of wood, vinyl or composite floor boards.

The composition is unique in itself. It is constructed with advanced composite ribs attached to fiberglass matting. This product is so strong that there are no other sub flooring materials needed. You simply install the interlocking strips with one screw in each floor joist.

After the installation is complete, the ribbed surface is ready for mortar to be applied and porcelain tile to be installed. Deck maintenance is a thing of the past with a tiled deck. You can choose the color and design you want so that your new tiled deck will blend in with your outdoor living area. Create the style and elegance a tiled deck can give you. For the rustic look there are porcelain tiles with a brick or stone finish, or go for elegance with a porcelain tile made to look like marble. There are so many attractive options available and the choices are almost without limits.

Another great thing about this new product is that you don’t have to be a pro to install it. This is truly a do-it-yourself product. The process works like this.

First you screw down the interlocking boards
Next you apply the mortar which will fill up all the ribs and let it dry before you install the tile.
Apply thin set with a trough
Start installing the tile over the thin set using tile spacers
Use a tile cutter to fit pieces where needed
After the tile is installed use a grout float to force the grout into the joints
Use a grout packer to push the grout into the joints and give you a nice finished look
The end result will be a beautiful tiled deck

Each of these boards are 12″ wide and you can get them in 8′ or 12′ long pieces. The product has been tested for structural durability, contraction and expansion and it is also fire rated. Not only will you end up with a waterproof finished tile floor, you also get a product that will last for decades and you eliminate the maintenance problems and is one of the strongest decking solution available.

Plus, it is designed to be used in all 50 states and will withstand any of the elements related to the whether conditions. It is non-corrosive and has practically no expansion problems and is one of the strongest decking solutions available.

Do You Remember the Analog Era?

Recently, I read an article in my local newspaper about things we use do to and products we used to own that are now long gone or at least for most of us. I thought it would be fun to mention a few of these things here. Enjoy!

I can remember when I was a kid there were pay toilet stalls.

Seriously, to use the bathroom you would have to insert a coin and turn the handle and presto, you could open the door. The funny thing is, there was enough space to crawl under the door and use the toilet for free. I wonder if I ever did that?

Remember the Beta vs. VHS War? Beta lost out and the VHS VCR was here to stay. Right? Wrong! Now you can’t even rent VHS tapes anymore. So, do you remember when you could rent VHS tapes the sign they would have in the video store that read $.25 charger for not rewinding the tape?

Many of us went out bought VHS tape rewinders because they could get the job done faster.

How about the VHS Head Cleaners?

I can remember taking movies with an old 8mm Movie Camera. Of course in order to see the movies you would have to have an 8mm projector and and screen. But, do you remember the 8mm film editors/splicers? You could use these to cut out bad sections of the film and even edit in film.

And there were some very cool cameras. How about the Instamatic Camera with Flash Cubes. This camera from Kodak, the Instamatic Color Outfit promised Clear, Sharp Pictures.

Do you remember owning and riding a single speed bike? You know, they do still make some today.

How about mowing your lawn with a push mower? I know some people that still use these today. I’m serious.

And finally, there was the Original Napster where you could download all the free music your little heart desired.

There are so many other things that we used to do and at the time we thought that what we did and what we had was the very best.

If we had a record skipping on our record player, we just put a penny or and nickel on the phono cartridge and presto, it stopped skipping.

We used to get up from our chairs to change the channel on our TV sets.

How about refilling a fountain pen or using carbon paper to make copies. And, who can forget writing in cursive and sending a letter through the mail.

I know that some people still do some of these things, but I thought it would be fun just to sit back, take a few moments, and remember.

This very cool little device is very easy to use and even though it is not perfect, it is something that a lot of us will want. Let’s face it – How often can you carry an entire home library of books around with you and put it in a purse or brief case?
